Stammtische

Newcastle University's German Stammtisch

‌The German Stammtisch started in 2010 and was established to bring together mainly staff and students from the School of Modern Languages who enjoy spending an evening together speaking German. Even though it is organised through Newcastle university's German department, everyone with an interest in German is welcome to join. It takes place once a month at Bar Loco, near to Leazes Park. Follow the NEGN on FB and Twitter to get information on upcoming events!

German Stammtisch

You enjoy food, you like German? Well, look no further! Another meeting group is a Stammtisch that meets up a few times per year for German food. Around 40 to 60 people out of at least 250 newsletter recipients meet up each time at local venues that prepares German food especially for that occasion. The Stammtisch was initiated by Manuela Wendler, who lives in Newcastle since the 1980s, and Josephine Chexal, the German Honorary Consul in Newcastle. Josephine informed Manuela that there was a German called Felix Busch who was the the Operations Manager of the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead at that time. He said that they had a German chef and proposed to arrange a German Stammtisch there. And so the first German Stammtisch was organised and straightaway a great number of people came to participate.

Today, Manuela Wendler still organises the Stammtisch.
